Margaret Adkins

Margaret Irwin Adkins, our beloved wife, mother, Nana and friend went home to our Lord Sunday, February 21, 2010. Margaret was born July 18, 1950 in Oklahoma City where she was raised and later attended The University of Oklahoma. Margaret married her high school sweetheart, Steve, and was married for 41 wonderful years. Together they had three children, Kimberly, Brian, and Emily. Margaret, or Maggie or Mags as she was also known, was so many things to so many people: wife, mother, Nana, daughter, sister, friend, scrapbooking queen, scorekeeping pro, and video poker extraordinaire.

She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Olathe, Kansas where she served the community with her many talents. Margaret was her children's biggest fan, cheering them on from the theater seats to the athletic stands. She loved to travel with her family, especially to Disney World with her grandson, Jake. Every summer one would find Margaret on the road with the KC Peppers softball team where she served as the right hand to the players and long-time friend and coach, Dan Eakin. Margaret was the keeper of our memories, forever behind the camera photographing the important events of family and friends. When not in the bleachers or on the road, Maggie could be found in her scrapbook and sewing rooms creating blankets, scarves, and scrapbooks for those she loved. Her dream of 'Maggie's Monograms & More' will be carried out as a division of 'Sweet Stuff' by Suzie Stadler. Suzie has learned from Margaret and is planning on carrying out her dream. You will be able to find her creations on www.sweetstuffbysuziestadler.blogspot.com

Margaret will be missed, but not forgotten, at the weddings of her daughters this March and August to her new son-in-laws Dustin Bolinger and Patrick Ohler. Her selfless nature, unending courage and life of service touched all those blessed to know and love her. We will honor her memory by living as she taught us with kindness, generosity, and strength.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Doris Irwin. She is survived by her husband, Steve; daughter, Kimberly Adkins; son, Brian Adkins; daughter, Emily Adkins; grandsons, Jacob Emhardt and Alex and Calvin Ohler; sister, Vanessa McKinney and Elaine McPhearson; nephews, Scott Ethridge and Mike Smith and nieces, Kaitlyn VanDever and Christy Bigelow; and many, many friends including her best friend forever, Nancy Kronoshek.

A celebration of her life will take place at 7:00 p.m., March 2nd at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 15315 W 151st St, Olathe, KS 66062. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The University of Kansas Cancer Center, Westwood Campus, 2330 Shawnee Mission Pkwy. Westwood, KS 66205. We would like to thank all of the medical and nursing staff that took such excellent care of Margaret.
