Manny Dejesus

April 15, 1967 — December 20, 2020

Luis Manuel "Manny" DeJesus, 53, of Olathe, passed away on December 20, 2020 at his home.

He was born on April 15, 1967 to Roberto and Maria (Escalara) DeJesus in Hartford, CT. Manny worked various jobs as a teenager in and around New York City, where he grew up. He was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Maricelis DeJesus in 1986. He joined the Army Reserves in the 90's and then joined the Army in September 2001. After being honorably discharged in 2003 Manny worked as a civilian employee for the Army for his remaining 17 years. He was known by many in his workplace as a guy who liked a joke and loved to make people laugh. He never met a stranger and brightened the day of whoever he interacted with. He loved the New York Mets and listened--quite loudly at times--to Latin music.

He made his future wife laugh at a Cinco de Mayo party. On November 9, 2002 he married Monica Jo DeJesus (Hansen). Manny and Monica lived in Olathe, KS.

Manny is survived by his loving wife, Monica and their two sons, Eli and Aaron as well as his mother (Epifanio), his father (Porfiria), his half-sister Yesenia (Alex), his daughter, his niece Alyssa Czerwonka (Joe), his great-niece Julianna and his grandson, Angel.

He was preceded in death by his sister Nordelys DeJesus, his paternal grandparents Thomas DeJesus and Agueda DeJesus Melendez and his maternal grandparents Avelino Escalera and Martina Velasquez.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, Olathe, KS.

A private funeral service will be held with burial to take place at Olathe Memorial Cemetery.
