Lynn Catherine Christophersen, of Olathe, Kan., died peacefully July 4, 2016, after a courageous 10-year battle with cancer. She was born August 20, 1942, in Oak Park, Ill., and spent her childhood in River Grove, Ill., Sonora, Calif., and Arlington Heights, Ill. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1960, and was the first graduate of the Radiology Technology Program at Northwest Community Hospital in 1962. She joined the Peace Corps briefly, then began working as an X-ray technician at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles and at the American University Hospital in Beirut, Lebanon. After returning to the United States, Lynn worked at Yale-New Haven Hospital and in a private medical practice in Connecticut, Suburban Medical Center in Overland Park, Kans., and Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. While living in Connecticut, Lynn was an SCCA-licensed driver, campaigning her Datsun 240Z.
Lynn was very proud to have served in the U. S. Navy Reserves, retiring after 20 years of service, including deployment at Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital (North Carolina) during Desert Storm. She earned the National Defense Service Medal, an M-16 Rifle Marksman Ribbon, and a Second Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Vivian Christophersen. She is survived by her brothers Walter Christophersen of Phoenix, and Edward R. Christophersen, Ph.D., of Leawood, Kans., as well as her sister Jane Christophersen of Sacramento, Calif. Inurnment will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 1:30PM Tuesday November 22, 2016
