Doctor Lucio Arteaga, 90, of Lenexa, Kansas passed away peacefully on May 2, 2015. He was born on May 22, 1924 to Juan and Rosa Arteaga of Calatayud, Spain. He was married to Maria Navarro De Arro and quickly established a family with the birth of his son Lucio Arteaga, Junior.
Their love grew through the struggles of Spanish political unrest which led to their immigration to Halifax, Canada where his second son, Robert Arteaga was born. While Lucio was in Halifax, he quickly realized that he needed to support a growing family and started his masters in Mathematics at Dalhousie University. While he grew in his studies he quickly became astute with statistical quantitative analysis which later led to his doctorate in Mathematics.
Lucio and his family continued to flourish during their early years where Lucio worked in Saskatoon Saskatchewan,Windsor, Ontario, Canada and eventually moved to the US, in Charlotte, North Carolina and eventually established long term residence in Wichita, Kansas. While at Wichita, Kansas he was employed at Wichita State University(WSU) where he was promoted to full professor. His tenure and service as a professor at WSU positively changed the lives of many students that continues to impact academic circles today.
Lucio Arteaga is survived by his loving sons Doctor Lucio Arteaga, Jr. and Robert Arteaga. Lucio. Jr is an established medical doctor in Scottsdale, Arizona and Robert is a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Kansas Army National Guard and an Electrical Engineer at Burns & McDonnell. Lucio was blessed by three grand children: Daniel Joe, Ashley Maria and Eric Luke Arteaga all of Scottsdale Arizona. Lucio is further blessed by being the grand father of Dallas Daniel and Vivian Aubriella.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Olathe Hospice House.
Lucio was an important member of LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens) and the Kansas Soccer Association where he was inducted into the Kansas Soccer Hall of Fame.
