Lucille (Lucy) Pilgrim passed away at her home on January 28, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born February 23, 1926 and was only a few days short of reaching her 98th birthday. Lucy was born in a rural town in North Georgia and lived there with her parents and five siblings before venturing to Atlanta to seek employment. It was in Atlanta that she met and married her soulmate, Jr, and they were married on Christmas Eve, 1946. They welcomed their only child Lynda, the following December.
Lucy was the epitome of a Southern Belle. Her focus was always family. You must search diligently to find anyone with a gentler soul and sweet spirit.
Lucy worked at Borden's for many years and later another company before retiring. She sadly and suddenly lost the love of her life, JR, in 1969. A few months later, she lovingly welcomed her first and only grandchild, Michele. Michele chose to call her grandmother "MA" …a name she proudly wore until her last breath. Lucy was "MA" to everyone. She spent her days sewing, volunteering at a local hospital and at her church thrift shop, but mainly obsessing over Michele.
In 1989, she married Jack and in 2005 they moved to join her family here in Overland Park, KS. To be truthful, this move had little to do with being near her adoring, wonderful daughter, Lynda, nor her lovely and beautiful granddaughter Michele. The move across country at age 75 was clearly based on being near and spending her time with her two great grandsons, Logan and Blake. Lynda and Michele were left on the sidelines watching her pour her love onto these two boys. There are no words to describe her adoration for Logan and Blake.
Lucille lived a long life and was at the center of family always. She was rooted in truth and compassion and loved the Lord. Her love for family first was only threatened by her love of chocolate!
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ella Mae Watkins; siblings Guy, Eugene, Rachel and Aline; and her first husband, JR.
She leaves behind her husband, Jack; daughter, Lynda; granddaughter, Michele and her husband Ken; 2 great grandsons, Logan, wife Emmy and Blake; brother, Lerol and several nieces and nephews. Also, stepchildren Michele, Kellie and Kim and their spouses and children.
MA will be deeply missed and forever loved. Rest in peace, my sweet Mama.
