Loushiel "Corky" Howell Dodson, 69, of Olathe, passed away at his home on August 22, 2016. He was born on December 5, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri to Billy and Opal Dodson.
Corky served in the United Staes Naval Reserve on the U.S.S. Ajax from 1967 to 1972 as an Electricians Mate during the Vietnam War. Upon his return from active duty, Corky married his wife, Kathy on February 27, 1970. They were married for 46 years.
Corky was then hired on at SouthWestern Bell in May of 1970 where he worked as a Cable Splicer until he retired in July of 2002. During that time he served as a mentor to others. It was recalled by a close friend and co-worker that out of all of the people he had known there, he never met anyone that had a negative word about Corky.
Corky's sense of service continued as he became active in Boy Scouts. He served as a leader in Troop 83, in Olathe for many years as well as performing duties in the Heart of America council. During this time he lead the young men with his quiet example. He showed them the value of hard work and dedication to the cause of doing your duty to God and country.
Corky had a love for his family. He adored all of his grandchildren and loved spending time with them as much as possible. He looked forward to taking yearly trips to Branson with them and creating memories that would last.
He also had a love for his birds and squirrels and rabbits that he would nuture in the backyard every day.
Later on in his life, his service continued as began attending church at New Hope. During this time, he came to faith in his Lord Jesus Christ, giving him the reassurance of where his home would be.
Corky is survived by his loving wife Kathryn "Kathy"; son Travis (Chrissy); grandchildren Christopher, Peyton, Gracelyn; siblings Billy, Shiela, and Bobby.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am on Monday, August 29, 2016, at New Hope Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Olathe. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with burial in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
