Lorraine Dorothy Pavey, 95, of Olathe, KS and Minneapolis, MN passed away peacefully on August 4, 2018 as a result of a life well lived. Lorraine was born on December 26, 1922 in Osseo, MN to Frederick Gigley and Anna (Wodtke) Gigley. After graduating from high school, Lorraine started working at Munsingwear and then at Minneapolis Power & Light.
Lorraine was a devoted wife to Don and a caring mother to her children. She worked hard to allow her family to enjoy vacations to Lincoln Hills Resort on Fishtrap Lake, where there was no running water nor indoor plumbing, only outhouses. While the children loved swimming and Don loved fishing all night, Lorraine made it all possible by working hard to prepare meals and wash dishes – absolutely no vacation for her, solely an act of love for her family. She also had an unappreciated artistic/creative eye. She personally decorated their first house in Minneapolis by choosing all the wall paper, furniture, carpet, etc. Everyone who came through the house thought that she had used an interior decorator, but it was her creative eye. She also loved painting by the numbers and was very precise and detail oriented. She loved seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, of which she was a charter member, along with Don.
Lorraine is survived by her children Tom (Susan) Pavey, Dona (John) Collar and Debbie (Mike) Peters; 7 adoring grandchildren, Scott, Melissa, Emily, Amy, Tim, Justin and Stephen; 9 wonderful great-grandchildren. Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband Don and brother Donald Gigley.
A celebration of life will be held for Lorraine on Friday, August 10, at Mt. Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9514 Perry Ln, Overland Park, KS 66212. Visitation will be at 9:30 AM with service to follow at 10:30 AM. Burial will be the same day at 2:30 PM at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS. The family extends deep gratitude to all the wonderful care givers at Cedar Lake Village. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Mt. Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church.
