Lois Jean Sweeney

Lois Jean Sweeney, 80, of Overland Park, passed away on August 18, 2020 at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
She was born on September 2, 1939 to Benjamin and Pearl (Lister) Diment in Battle Creek, IA.
Lois graduated from West High School in June 1958 in Waterloo, IA. She went on to Business College, and later attended the University of Northern Iowa to study Elementary Education from 1988 to 1991. Lois worked as a Teacher's Assistant for a local Montessori Pre-School, retiring in 2003. She also worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Martin Brothers.
Lois was elected to the Board of Education for the Borough of Jamesburg, New Jersey, in 1999. Lois was an avid reader and enjoyed her flowers, doing cross stitch projects and spending time with her dog, Chuck.
Lois is survived by her loving Sons, Richard (Dr. David Myers) Sweeney, and Darryl Sweeney; Sister, Donna (Virgil) Fitkin; Brother, Ben (Mary) Diment; two nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and infant son, Steven.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 29, 2020 from 12:30 to 1:30PM at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Olathe, KS. A graveside service will take place at 2:00PM at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Overland Park, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Leawood, Kansas, in Lois' memory.
