LOIS LEE RICE, age 97, passed away March 1, 2018 in Olathe, KS.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 8 at 2:00pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe, KS with visitation an hour prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice House of Olathe Medical Center.
Lois was born February 25, 1921 in Lancaster, MO to Charles and Enda Hathaway. On April 16, 1942, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Rice. They resided for a time in Joplin, MO, and eventually settled in Chicago, IL for a number of years until her retirement from Digital Equipment Corporation in 1989. Following her retirement, she relocated to Olathe, KS to be near family.
Lois enjoyed living in Cedar Lake Village of Olathe for over 8 years, where she was an active volunteer, and enjoyed leading prayer groups and giving tours of the facility to guests. Lois also attended College Church of the Nazarene, in Olathe, KS.
In her spare time, she was fond of sewing, reading, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Ladner, and her grand-daughter Ellen Acinger, and her great-grandchildren Harrison Tyler and Quinn Acinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth Rice, her brother Gilbert Hathaway, grand-daughter Amy Ladner Tyler, and her son-in-law, Kenneth Ladner.
