Lois Deroo

August 23, 1927 — January 4, 2014

Lois Vaughn DeRoo, 86, of Olathe, KS, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2014 at Good Samaritan Nursing Center with family by her side.


Lois was born on August 23, 1927 to Roy and Nellie (Moore) Purcell in Vincennes, IN. She obtained a bachelor's degree in teaching from Indiana State University (Terre Haute, IN) and a Master's in teaching from Butler University (Indianapolis, IN).


On August 30, 1952, Lois married Walter Joseph DeRoo, and they lived most of their married life in Indianapolis, IN. She taught middle and high school biology/zoology for over 20 years at Northview and North Central schools, a career she greatly enjoyed. Lois and her family were members of Second Presbyterian Church, and they spent most of their free time golfing and socializing at Woodland Country Club in Carmel, IN. She was also an avid animal lover and enjoyed her many pets over the years.


Lois was preceded in death by her husband of almost 41 years (Walter). She is survived by her daughter, Linda DeRoo Hildreth (Max) of Oak Hill, VA; her son, Mark DeRoo (Carole) of Olathe, KS; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a half brother, Roy Watson of Burlington, VT; and two cousins, Eldena Purcell and Geneva Yokel, both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.


A service is tentatively planned for Friday, January 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery, located at 9700 Allisonville Road Indianapolis, IN (317) 849-3616 mausoleum, for those wishing to attend.
