Loie M. Moyer, 80, passed away peacefully early in the morning on October 28th, surrounded by the people she loved. The family suggests contributions to Girl Scouts of America, Camp Timberlake.
Loie spent more than 20 years as the proud owner of Loie's Bookshelf in Louisburg Square in Overland Park.
Loie was born in Kansas City, Mo. on April 13, 1926, to Mae Belle (Patrick) Scott and Albert Scott. She spent her early years surrounded by three older brothers; Herm, Al, and Bob, and an older sister, Betty. She graduated from Northeast High School in 1943. On May 27, 1944, she married her husband, George Moyer, who preceded her in death after 43 years of marriage.
Loie was an avid reader with a particular fondness for mystery and suspense novels. Loie and George opened Loie's Bookshelf in 1977 in Overland Park. She also had a passion for sports. She was a former member of Hillcrest Country Club and was active in the club's golf and bowling leagues. She was also a former Girl Scout leader.
Loie had three loving children, Geff Moyer, Terri Ball and Debbie Mitchelson, who blessed her with ten grandchildren; Geffrey, Ian, Kelli, Lori, Tindaro, Niki, Amy, Gabe, Kalee, and Scott. To her family she was our wonderful "Oma". Her grandson Geffrey Moyer and his wife, Angela Kermoade, gave Oma her first great-grandchild, George Ryland Moyer in 1998. Her granddaughter Lori (Ball) Dugan and her husband, Matt Dugan, blessed Oma with her second great-grandchild, Landon Matthew Dugan in June of this year. Loie spent the last five years doting on her favorite and furriest grandchild, her dog, Molly.
Loie was also loved by her children's spouses, Cathy Smith of Olathe; Don Ball, of Atchison; and Danny Mitchelson, of Chatham, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, her husband, and her great-grandchild, George Ryland.
