Lisa Marie (Dickey) Simpson went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, February 10, 2013.
Lisa was born in Topeka, KS on August 31, 1974 to Michael T. and Elizabeth K. Dickey. She graduated in 1993 from Shawnee Heights Senior High in Tecumseh, KS. Lisa attended Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS, graduating in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications. While attending Pittsburg State, she met and married the love of her life, Scott J. Simpson. While there, she indulged in her love of theatre, working behind the scenes on numerous productions. This hobby expanded to the Kansas City Renaissance Festival where she and her husband spent nine seasons writing and performing as actors and puppeteers. Lisa married Scott August 3, 1996 in Topeka, KS. Lisa worked as a supervisor at Sprint for a number of years and later as Office Manager at First Baptist Church of Olathe, KS. Her primary and most loved occupation was that of Maternal Operations Manager (MOM) of the Simpson home. On August 3, 2011, Lisa and her girls surprised Scott with a ceremony to renew their vows at Ernie Miller Park.
Lisa grew up a member of West Side Baptist Church in Topeka, KS. She joined the First Baptist Church of Olathe in 1997. Lisa had a deep faith and a deep love for her church family. Through the years she was involved in Youth Group and YLC (Youth Leadership Core) as she was growing up; assisted in VBS at South Broadway Baptist Church, Pittsburg, KS, while in college; and at FBC Olathe, got the opportunity to serve as an AV and soundboard operator, worked in the nursery, with Children's Ministry, VBS, helped with Wednesday Night Dinners, attended multiple AB Women's group activities, and was also a member of the Quilting group.
Lisa was devoted to her family. She was an active volunteer for FCCJC Cheer program from 2006 until 2013. Lisa served in the roles of Assistant Coach and Head Coach and helped at FCCJC Cheer Camps, assisted with uniform fittings, recruiting and registration.
At Rolling Ridge Elementary, where her daughters attended, Lisa was a Room Parent for both girls sometimes at the same time. She chaperoned Special Chorus trips, assisted with numerous PTO events, and she helped start the tradition of Assessment Breakfasts providing breakfast with a side of encouragement for the whole grade on each day of testing.
Lisa also volunteered at Oregon Trail and Olathe North High School working with Cheer, Band, Choir, Theatre, and the GeoScience Program. She served ONE Band as a trip chaperone and bus monitor, helped with uniform fittings, and helped with equipment.
Lisa became a Brownie Girl Scout in second grade continuing on through high school, earning the Girl Scout Gold Award - the highest achievement in Girl Scouting. As an adult Girl Scout, she served as her daughter's Troop Leaders, Cookie Mom, Day Camp Administrative Staff, a Zip Line instructor, Green Angel Award recipient, Service Unit Manager for SU 681, and FROG & Princess Dance Co-Coordinator.
Lisa's heart was huge, her passions many, and her reach extended far beyond the family she cherished. When asking friends to describe Lisa, these were some of the words used: Adventurous, strong, passionate, funny, creative, determined, caring, courageous, stubborn, beautiful, dedicated, generous, selfless, humble, tough, a good listener, inspiring, supportive, compassionate, couldn't say no, admirable, hero, honest, joyful, someone you could call day or night – a true friend.
Lisa is survived by her husband Scott J. Simpson, daughters Dalton N. Simpson, Dacota L. Simpson, Eilish D. Simpson, Iseabail P. Simpson, her father Michael T. Dickey of Topeka, her mother Elizabeth K. Svercl of Anoka, MN, her brother Jonathan M. Dickey of Anoka, MN, her sister N. Olivia I. Williams-Dickey, and paternal grandfather C.W. "Bill" Dickey of Topeka, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Malcolm D. and Lois M. Smith, and her paternal grandmother Glada "Cossie" I. Dickey.
