Linda J. Tomasch, 74, of Olathe, KS passed Thursday, August 9, 2018.
Linda was born November 29, 1943 in Oberlin, KS to John and Edith Bremer. Linda often reminisced about being a tomboy and getting into mischief with her three brothers. Her love of music started at an early age as she was often requested to entertain visitors playing the piano. Her musical talent continued by participating in the Decatur County High School band, a sax quartet and vocal ensembles. Her interests were varied including student council, school plays and being a member of the Decaturettes.
After high school she continued to pursue her love of learning at Kansas State University, majoring in elementary education. While at KSU she met the handsome young fellow, Lyn Tomasch, who went on to become her husband. After graduation, Mr. and Mrs. Tomasch moved near Denver, Colorado where she taught third grade in the Aurora School District and earned her master's in education at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. Careers moved the couple to the St. Louis, Missouri area. Lisa and Lori were born soon after they settled in Florissant, Missouri where they enjoyed camping, activities with good neighbors, and family time.
The family moved to Olathe, Kansas in 1974 for Lyn's job with the Bulk Mail Center. Linda quickly found fellowship and purpose at First Baptist Church. She led many programs and activities such as the TNT youth program, children's musicals, performances at nursing homes, choir, and small Bible study groups. Her musical and artistic talents became part of the fiber of the church and had a positive influence on many throughout the years. To this day, some of her backdrops for programs and her design of the sanctuary's stain glass window are still enjoyed.
Her most enjoyable careers involved art, education and children. She was one of the initial founders of the FBC Noah's Ark preschool. She later joined Bob Huggins creating murals and signage design for businesses. She really enjoyed her role as history guide at Ernie Miller Nature Center while also being a YMCA director for Briarwood Elementary. She put her heart and soul into the education and development of children by creating and leading cultural and character-building activities. During this time and throughout her retirement, she was also very involved in the lives of her five grandchildren which brought her much pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lyndon T. Tomasch in 2012, her parents, John and Edith Bremer. She is survived by her daughters Lisa Sonsthagen (Larry) and Lori Smith (Dwayne), grandchildren Marisa, Matthew, Emily, Riley, and Zachary, her brothers, Larry, John and David Bremer, and brother-in-law Bret Tomasch.
