here.Lillie Jane (Bishop) DaMetz was born July 2, 1926, to Earl L Bishop and Hattie Huntley (Martin) Bishop at home near Rosalia, KS. She married Max Omer DaMetz on January 24, 1943, after he had been called up to report to Armed Forces during WWII. Lillie and Max had 3 children: Terri Ann (DaMetz) Boerwinkle in 1947, Max Lyle DaMetz in 1949 and Anita Jane (DaMetz) Magee in 1950. Lillie ascended to her heavenly home April 25, 2024.
Lillie graduated Salutatorian of the Rosalia Rural High School class of May, 1943. She attended Emporia Teachers College during the summer of 1943 and taught first grade 1943-1944 at the Country School she had attended as a child. Lillie continued her education in 1961 at Southwestern College in Winfield, KS, with a goal of being a foreign missionary. After two years at Southwestern College, she and her husband Max transferred to Bangor, ME, Theological Seminary. She completed her undergraduate degree at Baker University in Baldwin City, KS, in May, 1966. Lillie received her MDIV degree from Phillips Theological Seminary in Enid, OK, in May, 1981.
Lillie was called to serve the following churches as pastor:
Drummond, OK, as co-pastor with her husband, Max, as well as their being Kansas-Oklahoma Associate Conference Ministers; and Plymouth UCC at Sedgewick, KS;
Lillie served the following churches as interim pastor while they sought their new full time pastor:
Pilgrim UCC at Wichita, KS; Faith UCC at Wichita, KS; Anthony Congregational, Anthony, KS; and UCC churches at Partridge, KS; Marysville, KS; Little River, KS; Haven, KS.
Lillie and Max continued serving the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference as Annuitant visitors to retired pastors through the Pension Board of the UCC until ages 91 and 93, respectively.
Lillie was very active in the Women's groups in the Kansas Oklahoma Conference and in whichever association she and Max were serving.
Lillie was a lifetime member of Eastern Star, as was Max.
Lillie is preceded in death by her parents, Earl L And Hattie H. (Martin) Bishop; by her brothers, Harold J. and Earl L Bishop, Jr, and by her sister Maxine L. (Bishop) Towne and by her half-sister Florence (Bishop) Merryfield; by her beloved husband, Max O. DaMetz, and by son Max L. DaMetz; and by son-in-law, Ron Magee. Survivors include her daughters, Terri Ann (DaMetz) Boerwinkle and Anita Jane (DaMetz) Magee; son-in-law, Robert Boerwinkle; grandchildren Kevin Boerwinkle, Karen (Boerwinkle) and Jeff Lesser, Kathy (Boerwinkle) and Michael Michaelson, Jr; Monica (Gorman) and Darren Butler, Greg Gorman; Erin (DaMetz) Deneke and Ryan and Kristin DaMetz; great grandchildren, Fig Rose Lesser and William Lesser; Marley Butler, Peyton (Butler) and Austin Marple, Attlyn (Butler) and Andrew Hurley; Maxwell Gorman and Zoe Gorman; Grace Deneke, Samuel Deneke and Emily Deneke; Bennett DaMetz and Joseph DaMetz. Great great grand children, Everett Marple and Callum Hurley.
