LEO "CLIFF" DUFFIELD, SR.
Age 84, passed away June 16, 2007 at the Olathe Medical Center. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 19 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd. Olathe, KS followed by funeral services on Wednesday, June 20 at 10:00 a.m. at the Olathe Christian Church, 1115 S. Ridgeview, Olathe, KS. Interment, Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorials to the Olathe Christian Church, 1115 S. Ridgeview, Olathe. 66062 or to the V.F.W. Post 2993, 1205 W Ott Street, Olathe, KS 66061.
Leo was born on February 18, 1923 in Pleasanton, KS to Guy and Bessie Duffield. He attended school in Spring Hill and at the age of 19, enlisted in the United States Army during WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart and was discharged from the service as a Staff Sergeant. Leo married Beatrice Gravatt on February 13, 1942 in Olathe, KS.
He was employed with Sweigart Construction Company and Jenkins and Blaine Construction Company, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the local Olathe Carpenters Union. In his retirement, he enjoyed visiting with friends and family, and was always willing to help others when needed. Leo and Beatrice were active members of First Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church and New Hope Presbyterian Church over the years. Most recently, they were members of Olathe Christian Church.
He was also a loyal member of the "Old Hwy 56 Coffee Club", and was a founding member of the Olathe West Lanes Automotive bowling league.
Leo is survived by his wife, Beatrice, of the home, his children Leo Cliff, Jr., (Janie) Duffield, Vereta (Chuck) Eisele, Susie (Jim) Pietarila, and Doug (Julie) Duffield, grandchildren; Charla, Kerry, Kendra, Kyle, and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Surber, Betty Spencer, Alice Hartley, and brothers Clarence Duffield, Calvin Duffield, and Art Duffield. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy Spruytte, and his brother John Duffield.
