Lena May "Sue" Nunamaker, 88, passed away peacefully at her home on March 26, 2013 after a long life filled with family, friends, and travel.
Sue was born May 30, 1924 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to Evan Charles and Esther Vina Young, the seventh of nine children in a strong and loving family. She moved with her family to Kansas City in 1928, becoming a lifelong resident of the area.
She attended East High School from 1938 until 1942 and later studied bookkeeping and accounting at Huff Business College. Her working career included employment at the Kansas City Missouri Public Library, Pratt & Whitney, Skelton Drugs and the Internal Revenue Service.
In 1950 she married Charles Joseph (Charlie) Nunamaker and they were married for nearly 50 years until his passing in 2000. The joy of their married lives was spending time with their extended family and friends at reunions, birthdays, holidays, picnics, chicken burns, camping, boating, and celebrating it all with laughter and love.
In their retirement years they loved to travel across the United States as well as overseas. They spent many winters in south Texas or Florida before returning each spring to the Kansas City area and their family.
She is survived by a brother and best friend from childhood, Jim Young, and his wife Shirley; her daughter Dr. Cathy D. Ream of Olathe, Ks; her son Charles J. Nunamaker Jr. and his wife Kathy of Lake Winnebago, Mo; four grandchildren, Laurie Myers and her husband Brent, John W. Ream Jr. and his wife Emily, Amy Hepker and her husband Adam, Diane Svensson and her husband Jon; and one great-grandchild born this past February 16, Brenley Elizabeth Hepker.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be sent in her name to College Church of the Nazarene Youth Ministry, 2020 E. Sheridan, Olathe, Ks. 66062
