LEILA BELL (Tracy) KENNEDY, 84, went to be with her Lord on February 22, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Memorials to the Olathe Hospice House, 20333 W. 151st Street, Olathe, KS 66061 or the American Cancer Society.
She was born on January 19, 1927 near Fontana, KS and graduated from La Cygne High School in 1944.
Following high school, she moved to Kansas City, then married Duane Kennedy of Vivian, SD on September 8, 1946. After raising her children, she worked at and retired from Marley Cooling Tower Company.
She was a member of the Morning Grange #227 in Spring Hill, KS and the Cheer'Em Up Club in Morning Grange, of which she was once President.
Leila was an avid quilter and created many beautiful quilts on her own, as well as participating in the quilting group at Morning Grange.
Leila was a member of the Aldersgate Untied Methodist Church where she was active in the Fogey's and in preparing the church bulletins.
Leila is preceded in death by her husband, Duane, and brothers Kenneth and Duane Tracy. She has three children, Dale Kennedy of Coffeyville, KS; Alan Kennedy
(Judy) of St. Peter's, MO, and Karen Kennedy of Hamilton, GA. She has five grandchildren; Dr. Karna Barquist (fiancé Ben Holcomb) of Minneapolis, MN, Andrew Kennedy (Catherine) of Coffeyville, KS, Doug Barquist of Kansas City, MO, Tom Kennedy (Shaina) of Pittsburg, KS, and Daniel Kennedy of Coffeyville, KS; two sisters Leita Broockerd (Jim) and Twila Broockerd (August); one sister-in-law , Lyla Tracy; numerous nephews and nieces. She was looking forward to the birth of her first great-grandchild in September.
