Lawrence "Larry" Dean Kehoe

August 21, 1965 — August 22, 2024

Lawrence "Larry" Dean Kehoe died suddenly due to an acute cardiovascular event at Pomona State Park on August 21, 2024, with his constant companion and beloved Labrador Retriever, Rudy, by his side. It was his 59th birthday. Always an avid outdoorsman, Larry and Rudy had gone to the park to fish. There is great comfort in knowing he spent his last moments on earth in the serenity of nature.

Larry was born on August 21, 1965, in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was the third of Dean and Irene Kehoe’s four children, and their only son. While Larry loved his sisters, he longed for brotherhood and found it many times over in the deep and lasting relationships he built with extended family members and friends. Larry graduated from Olathe South High School in 1983, and spent his adult years living in Pomona, KS. He worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator.

Larry was a lifelong fisherman, hunter, and Kansas City sports fan. He was outgoing and gregarious, effortlessly striking up conversations in a way that put others at ease. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, booming voice, animated personality, and vivid storytelling. He was extremely generous, always making himself available to help family and friends. It came as no surprise that he wanted to be an organ donor. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to fulfill this final wish, knowing that his spirit will live on in the lives of those who received his donations.

Larry is survived by his parents, Dean and Irene Kehoe; three sisters, Yvonne Kehoe-Meier (Terry), Yvette Fitzmaurice (Dan), and Peggy Rees (Brian); four nephews, Parker, Quinn, Mason, and Jackson; and four nieces, Moriah, Katherine, Megan, and Anna.

We would like to thank the staff of Advent Shawnee Mission Hospital ICU and Midwest Transplant Network for their exceptional kindness, compassion and care for Larry and our family. We will cherish the memory of his donor honor walk, and final ambulance ride with Rudy – one last road trip for the best of friends.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Larry’s life. A Rosary prayer service will be held on Thursday, August 29, at 6:30 PM, followed by visitation from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S Black Bob Road, Olathe, KS 66062. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 30, at 11:00 AM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W 143rd St, Olathe, KS 66062. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
