Lawrence Glenn Aelmore

April 2, 1940 — November 10, 2021

Lawrence "Larry" Glenn Aelmore, 81, passed away at Olathe Medical Center on November 10, 2021. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Larry was born in Wichita, KS., son of C.W. and Inez (Holleman) Aelmore on April 2, 1940. He is preceded in death by his parents, C.W. and Inez Aelmore, and his brother, Charlie Aelmore.

Larry grew up in LaCygne, KS and later enlisted in the US Army where he served as a sharpshooter from 1961 to 1965 at Ft. Gordon, Georgia. He later moved to Olathe, KS where he remained for the rest of his life. Larry was a member of the American Legion Post #153, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Larry had a variety of talents which enabled him to work in many different industries. They included owning and operating Aelmore Construction, a local residential builder in the late 60's and 70's. His work ranged from apartment complexes, trim work, and the late historical gazebo in downtown Olathe. The gazebo was always the center of attraction during Old Settlers and held many weddings and other events. He also owned and operated many semitrucks that took him across the nation. He had numerous awards during his tenure with OTRX, ACT, and Tandem Truck Service. This included several four and five year safe driving awards as well as a million-mile safe driving award to mention a few. He was very proud of all his accomplishments throughout the years and decided to display the awards in his garage along with his bowling and car racing trophies. Larry was also a partner of the Oxford Place Steak House in Olathe for 30+ years. Most of all, Larry enjoyed going out with friends, usually at the Legion. He became famous on karaoke nights and had a favorite saying as the nights went on, "Let's crank-it-up!"

Larry and Diana enjoyed a happy blended family for almost 50 years. Survivors include Diana, his loving wife; six children, Shaun Aelmore and Mary (Vaneske) Aelmore, Brock Aelmore, Jeremy Aelmore, Nancy (Aelmore) Armstrong, Rick Underwood and Bill Lewis, Randy Underwood and Debbie (Lang) Underwood; five grandchildren, Brody and Molly Armstrong, Jake and Kelcie Underwood, Cody and Kristin Underwood, Jake Mitchell, Dylan Miller; two great grandchildren, Rylann Armstrong and Elise Underwood; and one sister, Jeanne and Richard Cromwell.
