Lawrence Anderson

Lawrence (Larry) Edward Anderson, aka "Porky", 76, was one of eight children born to Thomas and Bessie Anderson. Larry was born in Humboldt, KS on December 20, 1938 and died at the Manorcare Nursing Home in Overland Park, KS on January 6, 2015. He lived in Overland Park, KS.

Larry was a graduate of Humboldt High School in Humboldt, KS and attended college at Emporia State University. After college he joined the U.S. Army relocating to Painesville, OH after his discharge. While working as a mailman, he met the girl of his dreams, Ann Toni Jenkins and married her on April 5, 1959. This union produced 5 sons: Brandon LaMonte, Bryon Lawrence, Brett LaVelle, Bryce Landon and Blaine Lamar. Later, daughter Nickia was added to the group.

Larry was known as the father of six but was the mentor of many. His home and refrigerator was always popular with the neighborhood kids. In his diverse career, Larry was as an, entrepreneur, restauranteur, and law enforcement officer. He retired from the University of Iowa as, Director of Building Services. He liked to describe himself as a "molecular particle disposal technician".

Larry's pastimes included fishing, camping, bowling and gourmet cooking. In later years, he spent a great deal of time studying the bible and worked as a lay minister. His faith in God was always a significant part of his life.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jeanette (Anderson) Walsh, Marilyn Anderson, and brother Thomas Anderson Jr.

Larry is survived by his wife Ann Toni Anderson, sons Brandon (Cynthia) of Dallas, TX, Bryon of Overland Park, KS, Brett of Humboldt, KS, Bryce (Michelle) of Gladstone, MO, Blaine of Mission, KS, and daughter Nickia of Overland Park, KS, six grandchildren; Kelena of Forney, TX, Jareth and Trey of Arlington, TX, Shaela of Chanute, KS, Alan and Alexis of Gladstone, MO), and a great-grandson Bentley of Chanute, KS. His surviving siblings include brothers, John (Carmen), and James Anderson, and sisters Dona Peterson, and Bettye Anderson.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Church of The Harvest, 14841 S. Black Bob Rd. Olathe, KS 66062 with a reception afterward. Visitation will be one hour earlier at 10:00 AM. Interment will be 3:30 PM at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, KS 66748.
