Laurence Miles Shaffer

Laurence M. "Larry" Shaffer was born in Kinsley, Kansas to Ruth and Bud Shaffer. He graduated with a bachelor degree from Kansas State University and a master degree in counseling from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He devoted his professional life to assisting those with mental illness and found great satisfaction in this line of work.

He is survived by his wife, Penny Shaffer, his sisters, Carolyn Malcolm and Valerie Heintz, his step-daughter Lisa Minckler, son-in law, Eric Minckler and grandchildren Brendan and Britany Minckler, brother and sister-in-law Gary Mustion and Jean Ward and mother-in-law, Mari Mustion and last, but hardly least, his beloved dogs Bramble and Harley.

Penny's words are as follows…"Larry was the love of my life, my soul mate and my best friend, and left this life after filling mine with decades of love, devotion, caring, kindness and understanding. He was a private man that showed little outward emotion, but watching him with his dogs, his friends and anyone who needed him gave a glimmer into his gentle soul. Larry loved fishing, the outdoors, tennis and swimming. His dry sense of humor was a joy to all who knew him. He blessed us with his life and we will be forever grateful though we doubt he was aware of how much he meant to all his friends and family."
