John Larry Thomas passed away December 6, 2021. He was born on November 1, 1950 in Sedalia, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents John Tillman "Bud" Thomas and Beryl Leigh (Evans) Thomas.

Surviving family members include his wife, Pamela Sue Thomas, his son John Collin Thomas (Ashley Thomas) and his grand-daughter Addie Rose Thomas, Olathe, KS. He is also survived by his brother Mark Evan Thomas (Pamela Thomas) of Granby, CT.

Larry and Pam were married on February 7, 1971.

Larry grew up in Sedalia, MO where he attended Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, MO, graduating with a BFA in drawing and printmaking in 1974. He went on to attend graduate school at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA receiving his MA, (1976) and MFA ( 1981) degrees in fine art printmaking. He went on to teach at Highland Community College, Highland, KS, and Lincoln College, Lincoln, IL. Larry spent the last 25 years of his 40 year career, retiring in 2016, as Professor and Chair of the Fine Arts and Photography Department at Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, KS.

Besides teaching, he was a prolific artist and was in over eighty regional, national and international exhibitions. His artwork was included in more than sixty private, corporate and public collections including the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, Sedalia, MO, and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art at Johnson County Community College. Over his career he was represented by a number of galleries including Harleen and Allen, San Francisco, CA, Mary Bell Gallery, Chicago, IL, Dory Gates Gallery and Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art Gallery, both in Kansas City, MO.

There will be a private family service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given in memory of John Larry Thomas to the National Kidney Foundation, the ALS Foundation, or the American Cancer Foundation.
