Larry L. Cross

June 19, 1939 — July 11, 2024

Larry L.Cross, 85, passed from this life and into his Savior’s arms, on July 11, 2024, surrounded by family, at his place of residence. He was born on June 19, 1939, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Ervin and Elizabeth Cross.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Henry Ervin, Sydney Walter, Leon James and Nolan Byron Cross.

Remaining family members, remembering and loving him, are wife, Norma Cross, daughter, Charla Oldham (Jim) son, Kevin Cross (Monica), step daughter, Lisa Lienemann (John), step daughter, Cindy Padon and grandchildren, Magen Burgos (Stephen), Rachel Oldham, Spenser Cross, Rebekah Oldham, Nathan Oldham, and step granddaughters, Jordan Lienemann, Grace Padon, Emma Padon, and Helen Lienemann.

Larry served in the Air Force from 1958-1962, and afterwards spent most of his working career as a machinist at Union Wire Rope in Kansas City, Mo. After their closure, he worked as a special education bus driver for the Overland Park school district.

1978-1988 Larry served as a deacon and in various ministries within the church and community, was a member of Rockwood Baptist Church for 43 years, served as a volunteer chaplain with the prison ministry of Kansas City Mo., and was recognized for outstanding volunteer service to residents of the Jackson County Department of Corrections. He also trained and served as a Mediator/Conciliator for the Kansas City Human Relations Department.

Larry’s favorite thing was cars. He could always be found tinkering on them, adding improvements or buying, fixing, trading or selling them. Most recently, when he was no longer able to drive his car, he could be seen speeding through the halls on his fancy scooter, honking
his horn and doing donut circles around the parking lot at his assisted living residence.

Always ready with a tease or a joke, Larry was frequently found brightening the days of those around him. He will be missed.
