Kevin M. Barge, 44, of Shawnee, KS passed away on Wednesday April 12, 2017. He was born on January 21, 1973 in Cookeville, TN to Michael and Glenda (Sappington) Barge. After spending his early childhood in Tennessee, his family moved to Kansas in 1988.
It was his freshman year of high school at Shawnee Mission Northwest, and he was the new boy in town. In his English class, at the age of 14, he met a girl who would change his life forever. They dated throughout high school and went to Kansas State University together, where he graduated with a degree in Business and Finance and was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. This degree provided the foundation he needed to enjoy a lengthy career in finance at Cerner Corporation.
He married his high school sweetheart on January 13, 1996, and they quickly began their new life together. He embraced the role of being an amazing husband and soon became an equally amazing father to three children. He was extremely athletic growing up and loved playing sports as an adult, so it was a natural fit for him to volunteer to coach his kids' volleyball, baseball and basketball teams. He even performed a choreographed dance with his daughter's dance team. His dedication to his children spilled out onto all of their friends as well. He was so admired by the neighborhood kids, they gave him a nickname of Kevo and enjoyed shooting hoops and playing t-ball with him in the driveway.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents (William and Margie Barge, and Clyde and Mavis Sappington).
He is survived by his wife of 21 years Felicia (Hansen) Barge, and their three children Emma, Tyler and Sydney; mother, Glenda Barge; father, Michael (Lisa) Barge; sisters, Kelli Barge and Samantha Penn; mother-in-law, Stephene (Dennis) Moore; father-in-law, Steve (Kristin) Hansen; sister-in-law, Valerie (Jay) Swearingen; brothers-in-law, Nathan (Heidi) Hansen and Adam (Katie) Hansen; nieces and nephews, Kylie, Tatum, Reid, Mikhail, Mara, Carter and Kinley; many aunts, uncles and close friends and colleagues.
The family will receive guests for a visitation at Penwell Gabel's Olathe Chapel on Sunday, April 23, 2017 from 4:00 – 6:00pm. The memorial service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 10:00am, also at the funeral home, with interment following at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Barge Family Education Fund, c/o Enterprise Bank and Trust, 11970 South Black Bob Road, Olathe, KS 66062.
