Kenneth (Ken) Joseph Shore, Jr. age 65, passed away in his home on January 4th, 2016 in Gardner, Kansas after a long battle with heart disease.
Kenneth was born February 13th, 1950 in Boston, Massachusetts to Kenneth Sr. and Eileen (Sullivan) Shore. He graduated from Weymouth High School in 1967 in the town of Weymouth, Massachusetts. After high school, Kenneth enlisted in the Air Force in 1969, and rose to the rank of Sergeant as an Avionic Navigation Systems Specialist before being discharged with honors in 1973. After leaving the Air Force, Ken attended Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, MA and graduated in 1981 with an Associates Degree in Science for Business Management. Kenneth's work life spanned over four decades and took him from the East Coast (Newburyport, MA) to the West Coast (Livermore, CA) and finally to the Midwest (Gardner, KS). He spent the early years of his career with Varian Semiconductor and the last 20 years with Automatic Data Processing.
Over the years Ken enjoyed many activities including, coaching ice hockey, golfing, fishing, camping, hunting, metal detecting and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son Keith Shore and wife Jennifer of Olathe, KS; daughter Tracy (Estephan) Shore and husband Chris of Castro Valley, CA; daughter Laura Shore of Olathe, KS; his three grandchildren Melanie (10), Allison (8), and Lincoln (7); step mother Evelyn (Cox) Shore; brother Paul Shore; sister Anne Shore; sister Karen (Shore) Cassidy; sister Christine (Shore) Lane; brother Larry Shore; and ex-wife Deborah (Vosburg) Shore. Finally, Kenneth is also survived by his beloved canine companion, JJ.
A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, January 13th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gable Funeral Home, located at 14275 Blackbob Road, Olathe KS 66062. Visitation with the family will follow the memorial service. Kenneth's children are planning to return his remains back to his home state of Massachusetts where he will be laid to rest with military honors in February.
