Kathryn Parke

October 10, 1940 — July 12, 2017

Kathryn "Kay" Parke, of Prairie Village, KS passed away on July 12, 2017, at the age of 76. She is survived by her husband of 54 years Dale, sons Colonel (Dr.) Allan (Carolyn), Doug (Paula), Erick (Michelle), daughter Kellie Peak (Brian), and grandchildren; Milbrey, Derek, Jane, Trevor, Connor, Christian, Lauren, Jersey, Kobe, Jordan, Kylie, and Taylor.

Kay was born in Newark, OH on October 10, 1940 to Vona Lee Zimpfer Durant and Paul King Durant, Jr. She attended Ohio State University, earned a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

Kay had a brief career as a nurse before becoming a devoted mother of four children who kept her busy as a soccer mom, Girl Scout leader, den mother, and school volunteer. She enjoyed time horseback riding and fearlessly testing any recipe on her family. She was also an accomplished pianist and a violinist in the Overland Park Orchestra. She loved being a part of the bridge group with the Asbury United Methodist women and taking on any challenging sewing or crafting project.

Kay was a selfless, warm, positive person devoted to her family and friends. Despite the many health challenges she faced, she met each day with a positive attitude, beautiful smile and a determined spirit.

While her family is heartbroken at her loss, they are confident Kay has been welcomed into heaven by God.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Olathe Medical Hospice House whose staff was so comforting to Kay and the family in her final days.

A private service was held at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Overland Park, KS.
