Kathleen York Brassfield, 78, of Overland Park, passed away on Nov. 24, 2020.
She was born on Aug. 11, 1942, in Wellington, KS, to Bob and Mary Hadorn and grew up as a red headed farm girl near Geuda Springs. She was the oldest of seven and often rode her horse Sonny Boy to escape her five brothers and one sister.
Kathleen and her daughter Shauna, from her first marriage, moved to Kansas City in 1964. Kathleen worked as a secretary at Midwest Research Institute, where she met her second husband, John, and they had two sons, Michael and Brian. Kathleen's life was filled with her love of family, friends, horses, quilting, Chiefs football, the KC Star (especially the sports section) and trips to the mountains and ocean. She enjoyed working at Women's Health for over 20 years scheduling surgeries. She never turned down lunches out with wine, Blue Moons or margaritas. She adored animals, books about presidents, iced tea and had a beautiful smile for everyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Brassfield. She is survived by her daughter Shauna (Bob) Gregory, son Michael (Kate) Brassfield, son Brian (Misty) Brassfield, 5 grandchildren - Sarah (Drew) Stearns, Will Gregory, Mason Brassfield, Annabelle and Madeleine Brassfield, 5 brothers and one sister, and her very special friend Bill Berg.
The family would like to thank the KU Med ICU Covid-19 staff for their excellent and compassionate care. Kathleen did not wish to have a funeral, but hopefully a Celebration of her life can be held in the future. The family suggests donations to an animal or nature society of your choice.
