Karen Darleen Wiegman, 63, of Olathe, Kansas sadly passed at her home the evening of March 11, 2023.
Born to Floyd and Constance (Malott) Gunter on February 4, 1960 in Pueblo, Colorado, she was beloved by family and friends.
Karen received an Associate's degree in nursing from the College of DuPage, Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Kansas, and a Doctorate in Philosophy of Nursing from University of Missouri – Kansas City.
Karen embodied nursing to her core from working as a nurse, advancing into nursing administration, and eventually transitioning into education as a professor at Mid-America Nazarene University. She also volunteered in community outreach at Center for Grace conducting health screening while mentoring high school students wishing to enter the nursing field.
The simplest pleasures brought much joy to Karen. She greatly enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, especially during the holiday seasons. During school breaks and summer weekends, Karen could often be found at an area lake with the family camper trailer relaxing and enjoying a campfire with her family and three dogs, Blondie, Cotton and Ziti. Spring was Karen's favorite season as she would bask in the sun and warm weather while planting flowers and vegetable garden.
A devout Christian, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Karen is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Tim, her sons Tim, Jr. and Kenneth (Stacy), and her two granddaughters Maddison and McKenna.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Karen are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and Great Plains SPCA.
