Karen K. Franklin, 74, of Olathe, Kansas passed away unexpectedly at home Monday January 11, 2021. Karen will lie in state from 3-7PM Friday January 15th at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Olathe Chapel. The family will be present from 5-7PM. A funeral service will be held at 10AM on Saturday at the 151st St. Church of Christ with burial to follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Overland Park.
Karen was born August 24, 1946 in Clay Center, KS to Robert and Ruth (Reed) Habluetzel. She graduated from Morganville Rural High School in 1964 before going on to attend Emporia State University. She spent most of her working career as an office manager for Signetics, Kyle Railways, and 151st Church of Christ, retiring in 2016. She was united in marriage to Richard LaPlant in 1965, they were blessed with 2 sons, Troy, and Travis LaPlant, then later divorced. She was then united in marriage to Steve Franklin in 1985. They spent 35 wonderful years together. During those years they enjoyed spending time together in fellowship at church, visiting family and friends and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Doug, Ronald, and Lynn Habluetzel as well as her grandson Vincent Dean LaPlant and step daughter Aimee Franklin Dillinger.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years Steve Franklin of the home, sons Troy (wife Marcy) LaPlant of Springhill, KS. and Travis (wife Shannon) LaPlant of Louisburg, KS. Grandchildren: Ashlea, Greyson, Trevor, Tierney and Trey. Great Grandchildren Bodhi and Iveigh. Step children, Brian (wife Chyann) Franklin and Jason Franklin and step granddaughter Becky Danner. She is also survived by her brother Gary (wife Jan) Habluetzel and a host of family and friends.
