Julia Maxine Proffitt, 86, died Thursday, December 15, 2005 at an Olathe nursing home. She was born December 17, 1919 in Lincoln, NE, one of six children to Oscar and Florence Powell. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936. She married Blaine Delbert Proffitt on May 1, 1940 in Lincoln. She was a homemaker until her oldest son went to college, in 1959, when she worked as a Statistician for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She retired in the 1980's, after helping her children with their college educations. She was an active member of Lincoln First Church of the Nazarene, teaching Sunday School, playing the organ, participating in the Cradle Roll program, and cooking many meals. Her children describe her as the ideal helpmate—nearly everyone in the local church, as well as many Nazarene officials, evangelists and missionaries, spent time at the Proffitt dinner table.
Awaiting her in Heaven is her beloved husband Blaine, her mother and father Oscar and Florence Powell, her sister Josephine Dorn, her brothers Robert and Jack Powell, and her son-in-law Harold Olson. Those who celebrate her life here are her children, Ron Proffitt of Nampa, ID, Steve Proffitt of Springfield, MO and Nancy Olson and Julie Taylor of Olathe, KS, her sisters Dorothy Thompson and Pauline Skow of Lincoln, NE and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Saturday, December 17 at 3:00 pm at Weatherby Chapel on the MNU campus. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park in Lincoln, NE. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe will be handling the funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to the Harold D. Olson Memorial Scholarship Foundation, and may be sent directly to Security Savings Bank in Olathe, KS in lieu of flowers.
