Judy Ann Thomasson

July 2, 1942 — September 30, 2020

Judy Ann Thomasson (Hazlett), 78, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2020. She was born on July 2, 1942 to Jesse and Vera Skinner in Wichita, KS.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Carrie Mullies and husband John, her granddaughter Daphne and her cat, Pumpkin. She is also survived by her late husband's family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Michael Thomasson, with whom she married in 1989.

Judy grew up in Hays, KS and graduated from Hays High School. After high school, Judy went on to attend Fort Hays State University where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She graduated with a degree in Speech Language Pathology. Judy then moved to the Kansas City area and became a Speech Language Pathologist for the Shawnee Mission School District. She would go on to obtain her Master's Degree in Deaf Education from the University of Kansas. During her 34-year career with Shawnee Mission, Judy held several positions: Speech Language Pathologist, Itinerant Teacher for the Hearing Impaired and Diagnostic Specialist.

In the 1970's, along with her first husband, Judy enjoyed showing their Quarter Horses throughout the Midwest. They were lucky enough to own an exceptional mare named Show Me Sue. After time, Sue's show career continued on with several youth riders. As luck would have it, Sue made her way back to Judy in 1990. Judy was able to have 10 wonderful years with Sue until her passing at the age of 30.

After her retirement from Shawnee Mission, Judy and her Golden Retriever, Bailey, began volunteering with Pets For Life, Inc. Judy and Bailey would make weekly visits to nursing homes in the area. Judy would continue with Pets for Life for over 15 years with her Goldens Bailey, Charlie, Bella and Momo. What started out as a "once a week gig" turned into multiple facilities, special events and a seat on the Board of Directors.

Judy was a kind and caring person who would do anything for her family and friends. Her granddaughter was the light of her life and she enjoyed attending all of her events. Judy loved all things KU and was a proud basketball season ticket holder for 17 years. She would be proud that in the end she was able to be an organ donor.

It is our hope that today Judy is at the barn in Heaven, along with her friends Daphne and Sally, getting Sue ready to go for a ride with all of her Goldens laying in the shade supervising.

The family will be hosting family and friends for a reception at Penwell-Gabel, 14275 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe, KS on November 7, 2020 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm. Because Judy wanted people to always feel comfortable, we ask that you please dress casually. If you feel like throwing on some Crimson and Blue, even better.

There are no words to convey the gratitude we have for the staff at the Hospice House of Olathe for the care that they provided to Judy and her family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Olathe Health Charitable Foundation (MEMO: Hospice House), 20375 W 151st Street, Suite 363, Olathe, KS. 66061 or Pets For Life, Inc., 7240 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64114
