Judith Kay Coffin, 83, passed away on June 27, 2024 at Beautiful Savior Nursing Home.
She was born on March 6, 1941 to Mervin and Rosalie (Buckner) Barnett in Peoria, IL.
Judy was a Preschool and Montessori teacher for over 15 years in California. She owned an in-home Daycare in Kansas from 2001 until the time of her retirement in 2012. She had a great passion for teaching and loved children. She worked with children in some capacity since she was a young girl.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Olathe, KS. She had strong faith and a love for God. She enjoyed singing in the Church Choir and performing every year in the Christmas program. She also played the bells in Church.
Judy loved music and singing. She was a music major in college. She incorporated music into her classroom as a teacher. She was always singing around the house. It only took one word to remind her of a song, which she would then start singing.
Humor runs strong in her family and she was quite the jokester. She had her own brand of playful sarcasm. Even in difficult times, she could find the humor. You wouldn't always know right away when she was joking, until she would give it away with her giggling.
Judy is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Coffin and Deborah Pingleton, her sister, Diane McGuire , her niece, Sheri Tackett, her aunt, Joyce Mills and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, Henry and Hazel Buckner, her uncles, Henry Buckner and Ben Buckner, her aunt ,Corrine Neer, and her son-in-law, Craig Pingleton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in her honor to the
Alzheimer's Association
and the
American Cancer Society
