Joyce Deasley, the dearly loved wife of Alex Deasley, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Monday, March 5, 2018. Born on October 28, 1935 in Hardisty, Alberta, Canada, the second child of Henry and Etha Metz, she took great pride in her Canadian heritage.
She was educated at Canadian Nazarene College, Red Deer, Alberta, and at the Royal Alexandra School of Nursing in Edmonton, Alberta where she qualified as a Registered Nurse with specialization in Psychology. In 1958 she married Alex Deasley whom she had met while he was visiting Canada from the UK. They returned to England the following year, spending the next thirteen years in Manchester, England. During these years three children were born to them: Richard, Shauna (now Patton), and Jeremy. While living in England she practiced nursing chiefly in Emergency and the Operating Room.
The family returned to Canada in 1972, spending five years in Winnipeg, where she again followed her nurse's calling. In 1977 the family moved to Kansas City and has remained here since. The family was enlarged in 1990 and 1992 by the marriages of the children and in 1993 by the birth of their grandson Drake. She is survived by the immediate family and her only sister Dr. Shirley Caldwell Aldrich.
Joyce was a very devoted wife and mother, giving herself unstintingly to her children, and to her husband in his work as a seminary professor. She was also active in visitation ministry through her local church: the Overland Park Church of the Nazarene. The root of all her dedicated service was her commitment to Jesus Christ. Many will thank God for her life and service.
