Joy Lynne Peekenschneider, 71, of Olathe, Kansas, died October 5, 2017 at her home surrounded by family after a hard fought battle with lung cancer. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 8 from 6-8pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S Blackbob, Olathe, KS with funeral services to follow on Monday, October 9 at 10:00am, also at the funeral home. Burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Stanley, KS.

Joy was born June 19, 1946 at St Lukes Hospital in Davenport, Iowa, to Lloyd and Juanita (Ouverson) Tucker. She graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in Bettendorf, Iowa in 1964. She then went on to attend the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa and later received her business degree from Marycrest University in Davenport. She married Gene H. Peekenschneider in 1972 in Davenport. They went on to have two daughters, Nicole Joy and Lindsey Marie. During their marriage, she helped run the family business, Peekenschneider Oil Company. She then went to work at R.K. Dixon and then Genesis Medical Center.

In 2006, Joy moved to Olathe, Kansas to be close to family. After moving to Olathe, she became the Director of Finance for Total Medical Management. Joy enjoyed golfing, traveling, especially her trips to Europe with her mother, decorating and shopping. She loved the beach and one of her favorite things was to have her toes in the sand. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her 4 grandchildren. She loved to show them off whenever she could.

Survivors include daughters, Nicole (Justin) Schulte and Lindsey (Kellen) Levien, both of Olathe, Kansas. Mother; Juanita Manning of Gardner, Kansas. Half-sister; Lisa (Scott) Derleth of St Charles, Missouri. Grandchildren; Payton, Easton and Emma Schulte and McKinley Levien.

Preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Tucker, and her former husband, Gene Peekenschneider.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Royce E. Dunn, and Dr David Lee, Dr Stephen Smalley and the many nurses and staff of the Olathe Cancer Center, and the staff of Olathe Hospice Care, especially nurse Shannon Kelley.

Memorials are suggested to the Olathe Cancer Center.
