November 14, 1990 — June 12, 2012
Joshua Michael Shane, age 21, of Olathe, Kansas, died June 12, 2012 in an accidental drowning while on a study abroad trip with the Arizona State University in Phuket, Thailand.
Joshua was born November 14, 1990 at Kansas City, Missouri. He is the son of Jewell Grant Shane, III, of Liberty, Missouri and Melinda Burrows Shane of Olathe, Kansas. Joshua attended school in Olathe and graduated from Olathe South High School with the Class of 2009. Joshua played football and wrestling in high school. He had created a rain garden while attending Olathe South High School which will remain there in his memory. He was currently attending college at Arizona State University where he had just completed his junior year. His major was to be a Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability. Joshua was the co-president of the Oxfam International chapter at Arizona State University. He worked tirelessly to raise awareness and funds for this amazing organization. He was truly at his best while traveling and exploring the world.
Joshua is survived by his parents Jewell Grant Shane, III, of Liberty, Missouri and Melinda "Mindy" Burrows Shane of Olathe, Kansas; his siblings Derik Scott Shane of Liberty, Missouri, Hana Marie Nassiripour of Prescott, Arizona, Jacob Grant Shane of Olathe, Kansas, and Tyler Renee Shane of Olathe, Kansas; his paternal grandparents Jewell Grant Shane, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri and Rita Corina Shane of Liberty, Missouri; his maternal grandparents James Milton and Carol Ann (Rossman) Burrows of Overland Park, Kansas; his paternal great grandmother Maxine Burrows of Osawatomie, Kansas; his niece Eleanor Shane of Olathe, Kansas; many other relatives and friends. Joshua was a kind, loving, gentle soul who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
