Josephine Fernimen Chance
Jo Chance, 95, passed away November 20, 2007. A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina, Kan. The family suggests memorials to the charity of your choice.Jo was born October 3, 1912, in Thayer, Missouri, to the late Christopher and Effie Fernimen.
Moving with her parents to Salina, Kansas, Jo graduated from Salina High
School in 1930. A long time resident of Topeka, Kansas, she was employed for
many years by Capital Federal Savings and Loan. Upon the death of her
husband, she moved to the Kansas City area, settling in Olathe. She was a
member of the Church of the Nazarene.Jo was very active in her church, the
VFW, and giving her talent of sewing, knitting or whatever needed to be done
to help others in need. She loved to read and had read her Bible from cover
to cover four times. She made many friends over her lifetime. One very
special person, Yvonne Hopkins, to whom the family is extremely grateful for
the love, joy, friendship and care given Momma Jo through the years.She was
preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin E. Chance; a son, Joe
Don Chance; a sister, Mabel Sweeney; and brothers, Jack and John
Fernimen.Leaving those family members who will cherish her memory are a
brother, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Fernimen; son, Colonel and Mrs. James M. Chance;
six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and
nieces.Jo in her latter years, was a resident of the Olathe Good Samaritan
Center, to which we owe a great deal of gratitude for all the loving care
given to her.
