Joseph Edward Soule, Jr.

July 12, 1951 — March 26, 2021

Joseph Edward aka "Joe", "Jo-Jo" Soule Jr, was born to Gloria Rose and Joseph Edward Soule Sr on July 12th, 1951 at Baton Rouge General Hospital in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Joe passed away peacefully on the afternoon of March 26th, 2021 at Saint Joseph Medical Center with his loving sister at his bedside. He was surrounded by love and remains held closely in the hearts and prayers of his many loved ones.

Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Edward Soule Sr; mother, Gloria Rose Soule; and younger sister, Marsha Baker. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his beloved son, Benjamin; his sister, Trisha Webb; brothers-in-law, James S. Webb III and Richard Baker; his nieces and nephews, Jamie Webb, Michelle (Brad) Burns, Rhett Baker, Brandi Webb, Brooke (Rene) Celis, and Michael (Morgan) Webb; and numerous great nieces and nephews, cousins, family members, and friends.

Born into a large and very close-knit extended family, Joe's siblings and cousins were some of his favorite playmates and closest friends. "Jo-Jo", as he was called then, was the second child and only son to Joseph Sr and Gloria. Placed between two adoring sisters, he was naturally suited to fill his space as the easygoing, independent thinking, and free-spirited middle child. His childhood was filled with family outings and gatherings, Sunday dinners, drive-in movies, board games with his sisters, and road trips to the beach in the back of a station wagon. He loved Christmas mornings, comic books, karate, cub scouts, BB guns, dressing up as a soldier or cowboy, playing in the woods, card games, and swimming at the city pool.

Joe was baptized into the Roman Catholic faith at Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He went on to attend grade school at Our Lady of Mercy and St Thomas More Catholic Schools and would graduate from Broadmoor Senior High School in 1969. He attended college at the University of Houston where he earned a bachelor's degree of Engineering and Houston became his home.

As an adult Joe's curious mind and eclectic spirit would lead him to pursue multiple interests. He continued to have a passion for martial arts, and Shotokan Karate would become a lifelong hobby for him. He was an avid reader, had an early interest in computer programming, learned to fence, and enjoyed playing both guitar and harmonica. Joe's proudest moment came on the day of June 2nd, 2005 with the birth of his son, Benjamin Joseph Soule who from that moment continued to be his greatest source of pride and joy.

Joe led a life that gave testimony to his love of living it. Some of the words used to describe Joe by those who knew him consisted of: always wanted to be around family, always showed up, always playful, fun, patient, kindhearted, goofy, funny, quirky, free spirited, sweet, independent, playful, lighthearted, and compassionate. He was truly loved by his family and will be missed dearly but we will always carry him with us in our hearts.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 21650 W. 115th Terrace, Olathe, KS 66061.

There will be a brief visitation at 10:30am prior to the funeral mass.
A private reception for family and close friends will be held following the funeral mass.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions in Joe's name may be sent to The Sister Dulce Foundation, Inc. 17560 George O'Neal Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70817, or online at cypressspringsprayercenter.org.
