Joseph Milton Reed, Jr. 74, of Olathe, passed away on September 28, 2021 at Olathe Medical Center.
He was born on April 18, 1947 to Joseph and Betty (Harlan) Reed in Kansas City, MO.
Joe served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Joe was employed as Administrator of Health and Environment for The City of Overland Park retiring in 2007 then later Director of Health and Environment for Clay County, MO, until the time of his retirement in 2012.
On November 1, 1980, he married the love of his life Kathy E. Reed (Brady), and they made their home in Olathe, Kansas.
He was a member of Kansas Environmental Health Association, Missouri Environmental Health Association, National Environmental Health Association International Association of Food Protection, registered Sanitation through NEHA and active in MCAFDO (Midcontinent Association of Food and Drug Officials, and Olathe Health Ambassador. Joe enjoyed life, loved traveling, dinners with friends and time spent with family. Joe was always cool, calm and collected. He had no enemy and had a way of making everyone feel welcome and seen. He was intentional in everything he did. His smile and laugh were contagious. He led by example in his work ethic, family values and how to genuinely be a good person. He was able to find the good in everyone, he was always positive and genuinely wanted everyone to be happy. Joe touched the lives of so many, he cared about those he managed and took pride in the relationships he formed. For Joe, if he was able to brighten someone's day by doing something for them, then that day was a success. He was the best husband, dad and papa. We are all better for knowing him and he will be missed beyond measure.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Reed, his 4 children Melissa (Dave) Settle, Chris (Christi) Reed, Cheryl (Brian) Wiggins and Joey (Sarah) Reed, 9 grandchildren Michael, Elizabeth, Marine SSgt Hunter (Lindy), Dakota, Rylan, Tanyn, Avery, Carter, and Ava, and his 2 sisters Debbie and Pam.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Betty and stepmother Patricia Reed.
