Joseph Sherman Pinkley, 93, of Olathe, passed away January 29, 2018 at his home. Surrounded by his loving family, he was carried by the angels to his heavenly home. He was born on March 29, 1924 to Joseph and Nellie (Gann) Pinkley in Charity, Mo.
He lived and attended school in Charity, Mo. In 1942 he moved to Olathe to work for the Sunflower Ammunition Plant in DeSoto, Ks. He met and married Helen Jones of Olathe, June 12, 1943, and moved to Buffalo, Mo., where they were blessed with two children. They would have celebrated their75th wedding anniversary this year. He worked as a farmer until 1953. He then moved with his family and settled in Olathe for the remaining years of his life. He went to work at the Olathe Naval Station for a short time. He had a gift for building and started working for Stanton Construction for a few years. In 1962 he went to work for RLT Construction, which later changed to Wiston Co., as Supervisor. He then traveled to many states to inspect future sites for purchase and remodel. He retired in his late 70's.
He was a jack of all trades and loved helping other people in any way he could. He was a kind, loving man that was loved by everyone he met. He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by everyone.
He was a member of Oxford Missionary Baptist Church in Olathe, where he was a dedicated and faithful Deacon. He was saved as a young man and lived his life for God.
Joseph was preceded in death by his mother, father, 10 year old twin brother John, brothers Orville, Virgil, Gordon, Hersheline and Gail, four sisters, Virginia, Vinnie, Lorene and Geneva. He is survived by his loving wife Helen, and daughters, Donna (Jim) Holtgraver of Gardner, Ks. and Pam (Buz) Busby of Gardner, Ks., Four grandchildren Jenny (Joe) Long of Richland WA., Brad (Emilee) Holtgraver of Olathe, Angie (Bobby) Hunt of Gardner, Ks., CJ Busby, Wellsville, Ks. and eight great grandchildren, Evan, Maci, Noah, Andrew, Jacob, Zoe, Dylan and Ethan.
The family will receive guests for a visitation on Thursday, February 1, 2018, from 6:00 – 8:00 at Penwell-Gabel's Olathe Chapel. The funeral services will follow on Friday at 11:00 am also at the funeral home with burial in Oak Lawn Memorial.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to his church, Oxford Missionary Baptist Church in care of the Treasurer, Donna Holtgraver, 650 S. Ash, Gardner, Ks. 66030 or to your favorite charity.
