Jon A. Nelson, 73, of Kansas City, passed away on September 19, 2019 at Smithville Living Center. He was born on October 24, 1945 in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Mary (Goszdak) Nelson.
Jon worked as an Economist in the City Planning and Development Department of Kansas City, Missouri. He served our country in Vietnam as a member of the United States Army. He was a fan of the Kansas State Wildcats, New York Yankees, and Chicago Bears. He was an avid reader, lover of music, and collected model airplanes to soothe his passion for aviation art. In retirement he enjoyed restoring old bicycles and visiting thrift stores in search of vintage pop culture memorabilia.
Surviving are his sister Joyce Tosh, nephew Chance Tosh; son James Nelson, daughter-in-law Brittnay Nelson, granddaughter Alexis Nelson, grandson Noah Nelson, granddaughters Emma Nelson and Elyse Jeanne Nelson; daughter Erika Nelson, son-in-law Mustafa Özgür Hanesoglu.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 27, 2019 from 10-11AM at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Olathe, Kansas. Funeral Service to follow at 11AM.
