Funeral service for John W. Bruce, age 83 of Olathe, will be Saturday, Mar 7, 2009 at 10:00 am at the Penwell-Gabel-Olathe Chapel. Viewing will be held at 9:00 am, also in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial to follow in the Olathe Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Catholic Community Hospice.
John passed away on Monday, Mar 2, 2009 at his home in Olathe. He was born on Nov 13, 1925 in Olathe, Kansas to John and Rosetta Bruce. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, and his son, David, and daughter Margie Rosetta, two brothers, Kenneth and Arland, and his parents.
He is survived by eleven children; John W. (Lena) Bruce, Gwendolyn Bruce, Judy Turner, Donald Bruce, Christine Sipple, Ramona Bruce, Stephan Bruce, Sonya Rice, Sherrye Bruce, Stuart Bruce, and Shannon (Stacy) Bruce, grand-daughter Mindi Bruce, forty-four grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild which completed five generations. He is also survived by his sister Florine Williamson, his sister-in-law Minnie Bell, his aunt Ada Hombard, several nieces and nephews, and his caregiver and friend of the family, Toiya Franklin.
