JOHN SHEPARD "SHEP" LAMPKIN, JR.
Of Lenexa, KS, went home to be with the Lord on September 18, 2006, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Olathe Bible Church, 13700 W. 151st Street, Olathe, followed by a funeral service on Friday, September 22, at 1:00 p.m., also at Olathe Bible Church. Interment, Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, 6700 Antioch Rd., Ste. 100, Merriam, KS 66204, or to Kansas City Hospice, 12006 W. 87th Parkway, Lenexa, KS 66215.
Shep was born on August 20, 1922 in Fort Worth, Texas to John Shepard and Bertie (Ferris) Lampkin. He graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, and served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Sonarman in the Pacific. Shep was married in 1950 to the love of his life, Peggy Rapier.
Shep was a professional civil engineer and was employed in DeSoto, KS by Hercules Powder Company until his retirement in 1988.
Shep and his wife, Peg, have been members of the Olathe Bible Church for the past ten years. Shep was an avid student of scripture and Bible Study Fellowship.
He also spent 34 years as a good friend of Bill W.
He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Peg Lampkin, his daughters; Shellee (Art) Barrett of Tacoma, WA, Sheri (Rob) Mortko of Olathe, KS, Shawn (Tom) Nutter of St. Louis, MO, grandchildren; Tyler, Matthew, Claire, and Max.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Lampkin, in 1963, his brother George Phillips, and his sister Katherine Forsythe.
