John D. "Louie" Kern III, 63, of Olathe, passed away on December 17, 2018. He was born on November 23, 1955 to John and Ruth (Carlson) Kern in St. Louis, MO.
John grew up in Kirkwood, MO. In high school, he played hockey. He continued to play in college for Mankato State University in Mankato, MN. There he met his future wife, Kathy. They were married in Winona, MN on June 23, 1984. They lived in St. Louis for 10 years before relocating to Olathe, KS where he was always employed in the book binding industry as a salesman. His passions in life were fly fishing, St. Louis Cardinals, and Missouri Tigers. He adored his two grandsons and always put his family first. He was never at a loss for words or a story.
John is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; His two daughters, Jennifer and Allen Assmann and Carolyn and Patrick Alspaugh; two grandsons, Miles Assmann and Calvin Alspaugh; two sisters, Julie Bonnin of Houston, Texas and Karen and Greg Benson of Taunton, Massachusetts; one brother Darrel and Chris Kern of Melbourne, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Kern.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 9:30-11:00am on Friday, December 21, 2018, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe, the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc., Post Office Box 695, LaPlata, MD 20646.
