John Joseph Noll

November 17, 1948 — June 19, 2015

John Joseph Noll, 66, of Leawood, KS, passed away peacefully and comfortably on June 19, 2015 at the Hospice House of Olathe.

John was born in Leavenworth, KS to Loren J. and Elsie J. (Anderson) Noll on November 17, 1948. He continued to live there until 1988, when he moved to Olathe. He worked at the Johnson County Developmental Support Center in Lenexa from 1995 until his retirement in 2007. His favorite outdoor activities included ball sports and would often spend his free time playing basketball or volleyball with his many friends. His athletic skill and determination allowed him to win numerous awards and medals while participating and competing in scores of Special Olympic events.

Gatherings and outings with family and friends were always very special to John, but to the many who knew and loved him, the one true passion of his entire life was, without any question whatsoever; "The Wizard of Oz". Once that movie was released on video tape, there was no stopping him from watching it over and over and over again. His favorites were Dorothy and the Tin Man, but was thoroughly enamored with the entire cast. You could put out a nice dress shirt for him to wear and before you knew it, he would hang it neatly back in his closet and come out wearing one of the multitude of his "Oz" T-shirts or sweatshirts. His sister Terry insured that his room was literally a "Wizard of Oz" shrine... which he simply loved.

One cannot mention Terry without acknowledging her interminable love and dedication to both him and his care. She made a promise to her Mother on her death bed that she would always take care of John and their sister Karen. She has more than fulfilled that sacred promise with her entire heart and soul. Only God knows the time and effort that she has put in so admirably and selflessly. It was never considered to be a burden to her and it should come as no surprise that she truly believes she received much more love and gratitude in return from them than she has ever given.

John is survived by his sisters Karen Noll of Leawood and Teresa Jones (Paul) of Olathe, his niece Melissa Coker (Scot) of Olathe, his grand-nieces Ava and Bryn Coker of Olathe and many cousins from the Leavenworth and Platte City area. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.

The family wishes to extend our most heartfelt gratitude to the many case managers, staff members and caregivers of Bethesda/Faith Village and the Life Centers of Kansas; who were so instrumental in John's well being for these last many years.

Visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S Black Bob Rd, Olathe, KS on Thursday, June 25th at 3:00 PM. A Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 with Pastor Ervin A.
