John Haughey

John William Haughey, 52, of Olathe, son of William (Bill) John Haughey and the late Esther Elaine Croy Haughey, was born on September 20, 1971 in Misawa, Japan. He departed this life on August 21, 2024 in Olathe, Kansas.

He was united in marriage on July 11,1997 to Penny Danette Palmer. John and Penny met, married, and lived in Olathe for all 27 years of their life together. God blessed them with two amazing sons; William Jacob (Jake) Haughey and Joshua Palmer Haughey. John was incredibly proud of the men they are becoming.

John graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1990, where he earned letters in academics and orchestra for his violin. He then attended MidAmerica Nazarene University and Kansas State University, where he earned a degree in Finance in 1994. He had a variety of jobs over the years. In his teen years, he worked at Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. Through the years, he worked at Rent-A-Center, Missouri Title Loans, and iResQ to name a few. Later, he followed his dream of being a Real Estate Investor.

John was a member of College Church of the Nazarene. Over the years, he volunteered in the nursery, assisted Penny in teaching Sunday School, and drove a shuttle bus to bring people to church. The last few years, he enjoyed viewing College Church online.

He is survived by his wife, Penny, sons, Jake and Josh, father, Bill, stepmother, Michelle Haughey, younger brother, Paul Haughey, sisters-in-law, Ellen Haughey and Deana Palmer, niece, Aurelia Haughey, nephew, Atley Haughey, and many beloved Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine, and his grandparents; William J. and Christine Haughey, and Art and Esther Croy.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions in Olathe, Kansas from 6pm-8pm. On Saturday, August 31, 2024, there will be a visitation from 10am-11am with a Celebration of Life Service from 11am-12pm at College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe.

Interment will take place following John’s Celebration of Life in the Olathe Memorial Cemetery 738 N. Chestnut, Olathe, Kansas 66061.
