John "Jack" Harrell, 84, of Lenexa, KS passed Thurs. Sept. 21, 2017 at Lakeview Village. Cremation is planned with a private service.

Jack was born July 28, 1933 in Oakland, California to Edmund William Fuller Harrell and Alma Bethana Harrell (nee Hulen). He attended Fremont High School in Oakland graduating in 1951. He attended San Jose State College where he earned a BA in Business Administration in 1955 and a BS in Aeronautical Mechanics in 1960. He worked the majority of his career at IBM until his retirement in 1993.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, Edmund, his mother, Alma and his brother, Richard Hulen Harrell.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet Louise Harrell (nee Blaine); his four children, Mark Jeffrey Harrell (LeAnne) of Phoenix, AZ; Lisa Diane DeWolfe of Prairie Village, KS; Linda Ann Wong (Steve) of San Clemente, CA; and Nancy Lynne Holliday (Dan) of Tulsa, OK; His 9 grandchildren, Amy Covitz (Jeffrey); Megan Taylor (Adam); Christopher Harrell (Kristy); Nicholas Harrell (Meghan); Lucas Harrell (Janice); David DeWolfe (Veronica Marconi); Stephen DeWolfe; Thomas DeWolfe (Sarah); Elizabeth DeWolfe (Alex); 7 Great-grandchildren, Liam Taylor, Cristian Torres, Leo Covitz, Jack Covitz, Chloe Harrell, Riley Harrell, and Evalyn Harrell.

Jack was a quiet, kind, gentle man. He had a passion for knowledge and learning, particularly anything to do with computers and mathematics. In his younger years, he enjoyed dancing with Janet to the big band sound and then later square dancing with close friends. He enjoyed his solitude but also looked forward to being with close friends and family. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, scuba diving and woodworking. He also enjoyed keeping fit, reading and the shooting range. He and Janet are responsible for this big, wonderful family and we all are grateful for having had him in our lives. It has been said by several family members that knowing Jack made them better people with his quiet influence and guidance. He taught by example and we paid attention. He will live on in our hearts and memories.
