John William Dyslin

September 11, 1936 — August 16, 2017

John William "Bill" Dyslin passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the age of 80. Bill grew up in Peoria, Illinois graduating from Peoria High School in 1954. He attended Bradley University until he was drafted, serving in the Army for two years.

Bill was employed by Laidlaw Steel and Wire and Herschel Mfg., who moved their plant to Iowa. It was there that Bill started his own import company, which took him to many corners of the world. After living in Indianola, Iowa for over 20 years, he and his wife Carole relocated to Leawood, Kansas in 2006.

While in Indianaola he organized a volunteer reading program for elementary school children, was a member of the SAR and the Lions Club, and served as Master of Warren Masonic Lodge #53. In 2005, he served as President of High Twelve Club in Des Moines. Two days a week, Bill volunteered at the Village Presbyterian Church Food Pantry.

Bill is survived by his sister Marile Garrott (Jerry) of Post Falls, ID; his wife of 57 years, Carole; their daughter Betsy Fromm of Overland Park, KS; and one grandson, Garner, who brought him so much joy.

When Bill was not working he enjoyed cooking, entertaining, golfing, traveling, reading and loved spending time with his family.
