John William “Jack” Beadle died on October 6, 2024, at his home in the Aberdeen Village independent living facility in Olathe, Kansas. He was 92 years old.

Jack was born on January 23, 1932, in Marblehead, Ohio, to John Edwin and Helen (Elchisco) Beadle. He attended both grade school and high school in Lakeside, Ohio, where he played basketball and tuba, and also served as president of his senior class.

After high school, Jack attended Fenn College (now Cleveland State University) through a work-study program. He played interscholastic basketball and majored in Chemical Engineering. This prepared him for a long career as a sales engineer for water treatment and pollution control companies, including Nalco and Olin Water Services.

On September 4, 1954, Jack married Eleanor Lake Harris (who he had known since elementary school) at the Lakeside Methodist Church. Jack’s career took them to a number of different cities, including Wadsworth and Elyria, Ohio; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Portland, Oregon; Dickinson, Texas; back to Lake Charles; and finally, to Olathe, Kansas, in 1975, where they resided for thirty years. In retirement, they moved to Spring Hill, Kansas, and enjoyed several winters in Arizona – ultimately moving to Aberdeen Village in November of 2021.

Throughout his career, Jack played a prominent role in community affairs. He served on the Lake Charles City Council, took a leadership position in the United Methodist Churches that he and Eleanor attended, and was an active member of both the Shriners and the Lions Club.

Jack had a fine voice, singing in high school chorus, the church choir in Louisiana, and the Olathe Barbershop Chorus. In addition to hunting, Jack spent a great deal of time on the tennis court, where his long arms and legs made him a formidable opponent.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, and their four children: Sharon Lou (Kenneth) Mason, Jeffrey William Beadle, John Warren “Jay” (Linda) Beadle, and James Wilson (Melissa) Beadle, as well as his sister, Helen Jean Rofkar, and brother, Donald George (Carol) Beadle. He is also survived by six grandchildren (Steven Christopher Mason, Trevor Nicholas Mason, Sabrina Khristian Logue, Haley Lynnelle (Gabriel) Jordan, Jacob Wilson Beadle, and Julia Rose Beadle) and three great grandchildren (T.J. Camiss Peer, Gwenevere Brooklyn Logue, and Beau Thomas Jordan).

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 11, at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, located at 14275 South Black Bob Road in Olathe, Kansas. A funeral service (also at Penwell-Gabel) will be held at 11:00 am., to be followed by a graveside service at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe, Kansas.
