John A. Bard

December 2, 1940 — September 27, 2018

John Albert Bard, of Overland Park, KS, passed on September 27, 2018 at the age of 77 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was a resident of Kansas City all his life and was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Maxine Bard.

John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Darlene (Flory) Bard and his daughter Katie Bailey (Gary) of Moseley, VA. He is also survived by his wife's children, Connie White (Gary) of Overland Park, KS, and Cindy Johnson (Jim) of Plano, TX, sister Susan Bard Olson (Mike) of Portland, OR, brother Steven Bard of Endicott, NY, six grandchildren whom he adored, Rachael Bailey, Claire Bailey, Brett White, Kylee White, Bailey Johnson and Trent Johnson, and two nieces, Molly and Maggie Olson.

John worked for the Missouri Highway Commission as a surveyor from 1962-1970. He was a mechanical designer at Black & Veatch Engineering from 1970-1972 and Burns & McDonnell from 1972-1980. He worked as an engineer technician at Allied Signal (Honeywell) from 1982 until he retired in 2006. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Ottawa University in 1999.

John was an active member of Church of the Resurrection for 18 years, serving in many volunteer roles and very involved with his many friends from small group, Sunday School, early morning men's group and Promise Keepers. He was an active member of the Mustang Club of Greater Kansas City and enjoyed driving and taking care of his Mustang. He was past President of the Kansas City chapter of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers. John and Darlene enjoyed many trips and cruises after retirement and John truly got to "see the world." He enjoyed taking pictures of God's creation as he saw it through his travels.

"Johnny" will be missed by all, but we know he is at peace and God has welcomed him to heaven. The family would like to thank Nottingham Rehabilitation and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care the past few months.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30am on October 1st at Church of the Resurrection Wesley Chapel with a chance to visit the family after the service. There will be a private family burial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Church of the Resurrection Foundation.
