Joanne Vera Fales, 87, of Overland Park, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019. She was born on October 6, 1931 to George and Johannette (Messerschmidt) Barranger in Baltimore, Maryland. Joanne lived in the Baltimore area and raised her four children, before moving to Leawood, Kansas in 1973 with her husband, John, and their children. She enjoyed traveling the country with her family where summer vacations saw them camping in 48 states. With her husband, she loved traveling around the world, visiting many countries. Her hobbies included gardening, bridge, knitting, and needlework. She was active at her church, with UMKC Faculty Wives Club, and especially loved volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital.
Joanne is survived by her loving children, John Thomas Fales, Jr. and wife Jennifer, Nancy Louise Cain and husband Charles, Deborah Joanne Campbell and husband Calvin, George Thurber Fales and wife Julie, Yi Lin Zhang and husband Jin, and Nai Min Wei; grandchildren, Clay, Brent and wife Larkin, Beth, Laura, Ashlea, Tory, Claire, Bridget, Brody, Joe, David and wife Janet, and Jimmy; great granddaughters, Hailey and Kailynn; brother George "Bo" Barranger; and brother-in-law Milton Eser, and Zebulon Green.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Johannette Barranger; husband John Fales; sisters Nancy Strott and Gloria Eser; brother-in-laws Thurber Fales, Charles Strott, and Bruce Fales; and sister in-laws Doris Fales, Muriel Green and Bessie Barranger.
The family will receive guests for a visitation from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Advent Lutheran Church in Olathe, KS with the funeral following at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
